A 15-year-old boy arrested last week in connection with a double-shooting that sent two teenagers to area hospitals was charged today with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The teen is not being named because he was charged as a juvenile. The King County Prosecutor's Office is seeking to have him tried as an adult.
According to Auburn police, the teen shot two brothers who were skateboarding in the 1200 block of 30th Street Southeast on the night of July 6. The older brother, who is 19, told police that the 15-year-old boy walked past him and started shooting his 17-year-old brother in the back, according to court charging papers.
The 19-year-old, identified in court documents as David Garnica, then punched the shooter in the face, charging papers said. When the gun was drawn on Garnica, he covered his face and he was shot in the hand. Garnica's brother was shot in the arm, the face and three times in the back, according to charging papers.
The 17-year-old victim remains at Harborview Medical Center, he has not been identified by police or prosecutors. Garnica has been released from the hospital.
Garnica identified the gunman to police and added that at some point his younger brother had stolen the gunman's girlfriend. Garnica told officers that another one of their brothers used to beat up the gunman, charging papers said.
Auburn police are also investigating an allegation that the 17-year-old victim participated in a shooting in September which left the gunman hurt, court papers said. The gunman belongs to a gang, police said.
Dan Donohoe, spokesman for King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, said that if the 15-year-old boy is convicted in Juvenile Court, he could be 21 before he's released from detention. A conviction in adult court would bring up to 41 years in prison.
